⚠️ What to expect from a trailer report: Unlike car or motorcycle reports, trailer history databases are limited β€” trailers are not required to register in all provinces and states, and insurance claims on trailers are less commonly recorded. Our trailer report focuses on what matters most: theft records, title status, VIN verification, registration history, and lien checks. If you need a full accident history, a pre-purchase physical inspection is recommended alongside this report.

Reports for All Types of Trailers

Any trailer with a valid VIN is supported. If your trailer doesn't have a VIN, contact us β€” we can advise on what checks are available.

What Our Trailer Report Checks

We focus on the checks that matter most for trailer buyers β€” the ones that protect you from theft, fraud, and title problems.

πŸ”

Theft & Seizure Records

Trailers are among the most commonly stolen items in Canada and the US. We check CPIC (Canada) and NCIC (US) stolen property databases to confirm the trailer was never reported stolen.

πŸ“‹

Title & Registration History

Verify the trailer's title status and registration history across Canadian provinces and US states. Confirm there are no outstanding liens or disputed ownership claims.

πŸ”’

VIN Verification

Confirm the VIN is valid and has not been tampered with, cloned, or reported as altered. A mismatched or cloned VIN is a serious red flag on any trailer.

πŸ‘€

Ownership History

How many previous owners? Frequent ownership transfers on a trailer that is only a few years old can indicate problems with the unit.

πŸ’°

Salvage Status

Check whether the trailer has ever been declared a total loss, written off, or assigned a salvage designation by an insurer.

πŸ“Š

Market Value Estimate

Available on Standard and Premium plans β€” know the fair market value of the trailer before negotiating.

Why Check a Trailer's History?

Trailers look the same whether stolen, title-washed, or legitimate β€” a quick check protects you.

🚨

Trailers Are Stolen Daily

Utility trailers, car haulers and enclosed cargo trailers are stolen in high numbers across Canada and the US. They are easy to steal β€” no ignition, no tracking. Always verify before buying.

πŸ“‹

Title Washing is Common

A trailer with a salvage or branded title can be re-registered in a province or state with looser rules β€” making a damaged trailer appear clean. A cross-border title check catches this.

πŸ”’

Cloned VINs Exist

Stolen trailers are sometimes given the VIN of a legitimate trailer of the same make and model. A VIN verification check flags mismatches and anomalies that a visual inspection cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about trailer history checks.

Why is the trailer report less detailed than a car report?

Trailer history databases are more limited than car databases because trailers are not required to register in all provinces and states, and insurance claims on trailers are less commonly recorded in centralized databases. Our trailer report focuses on the checks that are available and most valuable β€” theft, title, VIN verification and ownership history.

Where do I find the VIN on a trailer?

The VIN on most trailers is stamped or stickered on the tongue (the front A-frame hitch section), on the main frame rail, or on the left (driver's) side of the trailer near the front. It is a 17-character alphanumeric code. Older trailers may have shorter VINs or none at all β€” contact us if you are unsure.

Does this cover Canadian trailers?

Yes. Our reports check Canadian provincial registration records as well as US state records for trailers that crossed the border. Theft records are checked against CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) and NCIC (US).

What if my trailer doesn't have a VIN?

Older trailers, homemade trailers, and some utility trailers may not have a standard 17-digit VIN. Contact us at info@ridesaudit.com with the details you have and we will advise on what checks are available.

How long does delivery take?

Reports are delivered to your email within 4–8 hours of confirmed payment. Contact info@ridesaudit.com if it hasn't arrived within 8 hours.

What if I'm not satisfied?

Contact us at info@ridesaudit.com within 30 days. We review all valid complaints within 5–7 business days. See our Refund Policy for full details.
